Which rules apply in the South West?

The Smoke and Carbon Monoxide Alarm (Amendment) Regulations 2022 require social landlords in England to fit a smoke alarm on every storey with living accommodation, a carbon monoxide alarm in any room with a fixed combustion appliance (excluding gas cookers), and to repair or replace faulty alarms once reported.

What does it cost in the South West?

Our guide range for mains-wired interlinked smoke, heat and CO alarms in the South West is £460–£920 per home. That is the UK range of £450–£900 (our estimate) adjusted by a regional cost factor of 1.02 (our own estimate); figures are before VAT where the source states it. Every job is priced after survey; specification, access and the condition of the homes will move the figure.

How do we deliver it?

Fitting alarms during a void or a rewire avoids a separate visit, so we flag homes in your other programmes where alarms are due.

Common questions

Which council areas in the South West do you cover for smoke, heat and carbon monoxide alarm installation?

All 27: Bath and North East Somerset, Bournemouth, Christchurch and Poole, Bristol, Cheltenham, Cornwall, Cotswold, Dorset Council, East Devon, Exeter, Forest of Dean, Gloucester, Isles of Scilly, Mid Devon, North Devon, North Somerset, Plymouth, Somerset, South Gloucestershire, South Hams, Stroud, Swindon, Teignbridge, Tewkesbury, Torbay, Torridge, West Devon, Wiltshire.

Should we fit mains-wired alarms?

Many landlords specify mains-wired, interlinked alarms as their standard because they are more reliable than battery-only alarms. We fit whichever you specify.

What is the standard in Scotland?
