Which rules apply in Wales?
Social landlords are commercial clients under the Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, so the full client duties apply. Where there is more than one contractor, the client appoints a principal designer and a principal contractor. A project must be notified to HSE if it lasts more than 30 working days with more than 20 workers on site at once, or exceeds 500 person-days.
What does it cost in Wales?
We price brickwork, pointing and render repairs in Wales after a survey rather than from a guide range, because the wall area, the mortar needed and access vary from building to building. Send us the details and we will arrange a visit.
How do we deliver it?
Where cracking may be structural, we say so plainly and recommend an engineer, instead of pricing a cosmetic repair that will not last.
Common questions
Which council areas in Wales do you cover for brickwork, pointing and render repairs?
All 22: Blaenau Gwent, Bridgend, Caerphilly, Cardiff, Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Conwy, Denbighshire, Flintshire, Gwynedd, Isle of Anglesey, Merthyr Tydfil, Monmouthshire, Neath Port Talbot, Newport, Pembrokeshire, Powys, Rhondda Cynon Taf, Swansea, Torfaen, Vale of Glamorgan, Wrexham.
Do you use lime mortar?
Where the wall needs it, yes, usually on older solid walls. Hard cement pointing on soft brick can trap moisture and damage the brick face.
Will repointing cure damp?
It can, where failed pointing is letting rain in. We check for other causes as well, such as gutters, ground levels and bridged damp-proof courses.
